Event Challenge: Creating a fun and creative wedding with elements that highlight the unique and non-traditional tastes of the bride and groom.

When Morgan Whyte and Tim Ware asked our team to help them tie the knot, we couldn’t have been more excited.  Instantly we knew that this wedding would be a little different from our typical bride and groom’s requests. While the ceremony was more traditional, we knew that Morgan and Tim wanted to put a twist on their reception in different ways. This allowed us to think outside the box and produce new “wow” moments that kept their guests entertained all night.

The Showroom is an event space in downtown DC, and as a blank space it offers great potential for customizing your event to match the needs of the client. Its open floor plan and bare design allows you to create your event exactly as you planned it, without having to compromise with anything previously there. It was the perfect venue to accommodate Morgan and Tim’s vision for their big day.

We partnered with Design Foundry to transform the space into the perfect mix of luxury and comfort. We used custom furniture vignettes to provide guests with a cozy space to sit, a fantastic way to allow family and friends to rest their feet in a more elegant setting without deferring to the usual highboy tables and barstools. Several vignettes were placed symmetrically throughout the venue, and warmer colors such as browns, reds, and golds were used to create an inviting atmosphere while maintaining the feeling of splendor.

Morgan and Tim wanted a DJ at their wedding, and we knew Lucy Black Entertainment would do an amazing job providing the perfect music from the first dance to the last. We thought adding decor and lighting around the sides of the DJ booth would be an innovative and fun way to expand the dance floor. Gold stands were placed around a bright LED light pole, and topped with lush green palm leaves and vines, creating a club atmosphere. The use of greenery was incorporated throughout other areas of the venue, such as vines twisting up columns in the middle of the space, and in the show stopping photowall we created with Brightly Ever After for Morgan and Tim. The wall of vines and leaves had white roses and baby’s breath woven tightly throughout it, framing the couple’s hashtag #MorganWaresWhyte with beautiful florals. It was all delicately lit with uplighting and an overhead spotlight to give guests the perfect pictures to remember the night with.

Morgan and Tim also wanted to use the food they served as a way to set themselves apart from other weddings, and so we steered away from the traditional choice of a sit down dinner. Instead, an assortment of different options were displayed and served across the space for guests to choose from. These options offered not only delicious food, but a fun experience for guests as well. A nacho station, mac & cheese bar, and taco cart were chosen and allowed Morgan and Tim to share their favorite foods with family and friends.  They even had a signature margarita named after their dog Margo. Short plates and hors d’oeuvres helped guests fill their stomachs while still providing unique dining choices, such as lobster rolls or charcuterie cones. However, the couple’s cake might be the most unique food option there - three stacked cube layers on top of each other, splattered with blue and yellow for their alma mater the University of Delaware, and pictures of the bride and groom adorning the sides.

Weddings are an incredibly personal event, and should reflect the tastes and personalities of the couple. While a traditional wedding is timeless and will forever be an iconic look, don’t feel as if going down that road is the only option. There are many ways to make a wedding special, whether that’s through the decor, the food, or the cake! RJ Whyte Event Production is committed to making everyone’s big day exactly as they hoped it would be, and we’re thrilled we were able to make Morgan and Tim’s vision come true. Cheers to the happy couple!
